Weekly Meal Plan: BEEF

As I am writing this the smell of beef and stout hotpot is filling my kitchen. The sun has just dipped behind the heavy winter clouds and the cat is curled up on the sofa. With winter in full swing I am craving the warm, hearty dishes from my childhood, and what better way to satisfy this than with beef.

Beef is the perfect meat to buy when you’re shopping on a budget, particularly in winter. There are so many cheap and cheerful cuts that lend themselves to braising, roasting, and mincing, which is why this week I went with chuck steak.

I bought 1kg of chuck steak ($11) from my local butcher and I got three main meals (including leftovers for lunch) out of it. It can, however, be quite a feat to eat three beefy meals in a week, so it’s lucky that it keeps well in the fridge and freezes well, should you give up and fall prey to vegetables.
